Site Meltdown

The site had something of a meltdown last night while I was upgrading it to the new version of Drupal.

I was rather surprised to find that the backup I had taken didn't include a number of critical files, and of course I discovered this after I had already deleted the originals. Gah.

Several hours of peicing things back togoether seems to have gotten most things back to normal, with the exception of some images and all video.

I know what the problem is re the video and I'll get to that, but I am not at all sure what's happening with the images, I am getting permission denied messages on them and when I go to edit the affected images they don't seem to be there (and yet they are sometimes visible). I suspect the content of the image DB has gotten out of step with the file system... [sigh].

Onwards.
