As it happens I had made my decision to not adopt Vista before I found the following report, but it underscores a number of my concerns about the platform.
Peter Gutmann (of Auckland university) has produced A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection.
It is a long, but VERY good read and I recommend that you do read it, but in short Vista's DRM will force all sorts of hardware to shutdown (possibly permanently) in the presence of High Definition content even if you think you have "HD Ready" kit. And, because of Vista's DRM just about all PC hardware (and a fair chunk of software too) will become much more expensive - even if you are not using Vista.
Read it, it's all there.
