It is big news of course, and everyone is talking about it, so there probably isn't too much to add. Except I will point out that:
- There are other Linux handsets on the way
- I think more competition in the handset market (even the Linux handset market) will probably be a good thing (some people think Google should have joined one of the other efforts)
- While a number of handset manufactures have not joined (they are generally part of another group already), Nokia has said that they are considering joining after all.

The API
The API was made available today, and I'm very excited by it. The reason I'm excited is because it is programmed in Java, and the services it offers are very well implemented. Items like location based services are native to the API. The development site also uses all the open source stuff that Java guys have been using for years. Its nice to see something implemented well, and thoroughly.
I've not programmed for Windows Mobile (and I own a WM device), or privy to the content that Apple will put in their API due early next year, but it will be interesting to see what services are offered in these APIs. Will Apple offer locaton based services in their API based on cellphone tower information? The pressure is on them now.
