Settings creation is very time consuming so most players don't bother; instead they purchase a pre-built setting from a games publisher. There are games for almost any setting that one can conceive, some of the more famous ones are:

• Fantasy games (e.g. Dungeons and Dragons, Rune Quest, etc.)

• Horror games (e.g. Call of Cthulhu, Vampire, etc.)
• Science fiction games (e.g. Traveler, Alternaty, etc.)
• Cyberpunk (e.g. Cyberpunk 2020, etc.)
• Comic book (e.g. Champions, etc.)
• Historical games (e.g. Boot Hill, etc.)
• Generic games (e.g. GURPS, etc.). These allow you to learn a single set of game rules and apply them to any setting.
